When Dr. MacAdam started private practice, she observed that many of her patients with sport injuries had concurrent psychological distress. She decided to investigate the current literature and concluded that there was a lack of research in the area so she decided to enroll in a Masters Degree Program at Dalhousie University to further investigate her theory. Her Master's Thesis entitled, "Does guided imagery as an adjunct to chiropractic treatment affect pain and disability in physically active adults with chronic low back pain?" concluded that guided imagery may be beneficial as an adjunct to spinal manipulative therapy in the treatment of chronic low back pain.
Dr. MacAdam is certified as a Mental Performance Consultant with the Canadian Sports Psychology Association. She received her education and training through attaining a Masters Degree with a focus in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as an adjunct to spinal manipulation.
